Apophyllite History Mythology Information: Apophyllite is named after the combination of two Greek words ‘apo’ meaning to be off and ‘phyllos’ meaning leaf. This name was given in reference to the mineral and the way it flakes apart like a leaf due to the heat during creation and the loss of water in the structure that creates ‘leaves’ or layers’. Apophyllite is a volcanic Zeolite and was only first recorded at the beginning of the nineteenth century. No known traditions have been recorded about it.
